High Blood Pressure

"High blood refers to a circulatory imbalance where there is 'too much blood' in the head and upper part of the body. The old authors would describe it as ' determination of blood to the head.' This condition is characterized by mental overactivity, restlessness, hyperactivity, high blood pressure, overstimulated appetite, overeating, tendency to weight gain, diabetes mellitus type 2, and mild heat conditions and is indicated by the high or large pulse." The Earthwise Herbal Repertory, Matthew Wood

Herbal allies such as Lavandula, lavender, can open the capillaries and disperse the blood. Melilot or sweet clover as it is popularly known is an herb. The flowering branches and leaves are used to make medicine. The blossoms of this melilot, or yellow clover, are very sweet with nectar and the bees like it to make yellow clover honey. Melilotus is good for high blood pressure and headaches. Depending on one's constitution, how the elements work within, determines what plant allies are best.

There are several asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breath practice) that can help with high blood pressure. I practice this with both all yoga given and Vedic Thai yoga, hands on Thai medicine healing. Here is a list of some postures and pranayama:

Halasana - plow

Janu-sirsasana - head to knee posture

Ardha Badha Padma Paschimottanasana -half bound seated lotus

Nadhi Shodhana without retention of breath

Again, it is all based on the individual, so consults are really important. Drawing from nature's wisdom and old traditions embedded with the healing earth like Ayurveda and Yoga can help all of us live healthier
