Hatha Yoga Shatkarmas

Jala Neti Kriya works directly on the olfactory and ocular system. Neti can aide with imbalances of: headache, migraine, cough, colds, allergy, neurological. If affects ajna chakra and awakens pranic energy in the face region.

Amaroli -urine therapy

It is recommended to maintain a vegetarian diet when performing this therapy

  • Helps to remove dirt, grease and toxins from the skin.

  • Urine has osmotic and solvent action which helps to draw out impurities from skin.

  • Salts from the urine can help to replace lost salts in the skin.

  • Can be applied on cuts, grazes, boils, pimples, and fungus as a disinfectant.

  • Urine can be used in massage to stimulate local blood circulation, remove toxins and squeeze out impurities from the skin.

  • Ardent supporters of amaroli therapy consider it to be a divine nectar of life. According to them many diseases can be cured by urine like:

  • Diabetes

  • Cancer

  • High blood pressure

  • Heart ailments

  • Malaria

  • General fevers and colds

  • Asthma

  • Menstrual disorders

  • Piles

  • Intestinal diseases & many more.

For someone practicing for the first time, he has to overcome his fear or phobia of urine. It is advised that this fear be overcome gradually [1]. Certain steps to overcome this fear are mentioned as:

  • Washing hands in urine

  • After a few days washing body parts with urine

  • Eventually (after more weeks) washing the whole body with urine

  • It is advised that after the above steps you should wash with water

Slowly as you get comfortable washing with urine, you can put a drop of it on your tongue. This is one of the few steps before you can actually consume a glass full of urine.

  • Amaroli can be used in combination with fasting to remove many types of diseases.


Amaroli is advised to be practiced along with balanced, simple, and vegetarian food. This is to make sure that the body remains free from toxins. The following are the important instructions for performing amaroli neti:

  • The results from this practice are subject to anecdotal and experiential / experimental verification without substantial scientific claims to back its claims.

  • This practice is to be performed under strict supervision of an expert, preferably in an ashram or clinic specializing in this therapy. Also, personal vigilance is also necessary since urine also contains harmful pathogens. One needs to understand how the body is responding to therapy and stop if any discomfort.

Trataka shatkarma

Do you squint with your eyes? Try trataka! There are also eye gazing exercises you can learn. ask me.

Trataka helps to let go of eye strain. It acts on the whole optic system and calms and anxious mind too. By steadying your eye gaze, tensions and restlessness of mind can be reduced. However, I also recommend the eye exercises mentioned in Swami Sarvatis book on Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha with Yoga Publications Trust, Munger, Bihar, India.

This can be performed with fire gazing. One stares upon a flame gently until they need to blink, then they close their eyes and hold the flame still in their mind. There are other methods such as: Central Fixation-while reading keep vision just below the line being read; while writing be aware of the pen tip where clarity is greatest. Same with typing. I personally like the fire gazing and eye exercises from Swami Sarasvati.

Yoga Nidra

A very scientific method for relaxation that everyone needs. A great time daily to practice Yoga nidra is between 2-6pm. Yoga Nidra works on our deepest levels of being and can bring profound healing to us holistically.

  • The series of these kriyas helps to balance the Tri Doshas of a human being. There are Three Doshas in every human being, if there is any kind of imbalance in any of these Doshas then the body will not function properly. So Shat Kriya helps the Doshas to be in a perfect ratio.

  • Shatkarma is helpful to channelize the flow of Prana in Nadis. It helps to clean the blockages of Nadis and thus Prana move without any obstacle inside the body.
